About the Workshop
Do you have couples or individual clients who are uncertain whether to stay in their relationship or not? Or a client who is truly ambivalent about a major life decision and simply can’t decide? If so, this workshop will provide you additional tools for intervening and supporting client needs. Learn about the history and basics of traditional Discernment Counseling, as well as how to implement discernment methods in your practice with a variety of clients. Practical tools and case studies will be included.
Location:
Hybrid. This training will occur in-person at CCRC’s Evanston clinic location and online via Zoom. Please select during purchase how you plan to attend. This training will not be recorded.
Learning Objectives:
Learn the history and definition of Discernment Counseling, and the basics and benefits of traditional discernment counseling.
Understand the process of traditional Discernment Counseling, as well as learn alternate models for using discernment as an intervention traditionally (with couples), or with individuals.
Learn when and with whom discernment can be a helpful intervention, and gain practical tools to aid in implementation.
Presenter Bio
Melissa Larmon, MFT received her Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy at The Family Institute at Northwestern University in 2019 and works at Chicago Center for Relationship Counseling as therapist, as well as the Director of Operations and Marketing. Prior to becoming an MFT, Melissa had a 20+ year career in higher education publishing sales, marketing, and product development. Melissa works with adult individuals, couples, and families from a variety of backgrounds, and brings a relational and systemic perspective to all of her work. She particularly enjoys working with people going through life transitions, dealing with relationship issues, work/life balance, and seeking to increase self-awareness and self advocacy within the various systems in which they live and work. She is LGBQTIA+ affirming and uses she/her/hers pronouns.
